The National Investment Bank (NIB) has organized a Health Walk and Games across its zonal areas nationwide as part of activities marking its 55th Anniversary celebrations under the theme “55 Years of Growing Ghanaian Businesses.” The event which was held on Saturday 21st April 2018 was aimed at helping staff of the bank appreciate the importance of physical activity through exercises and also provide a platform for staff of the Bank to bond.
Over 600 NIB staff in the Accra-Tema Zone, comprising 22 branches and the Head office participated in the 10-kilometer walk through some principal streets of Accra from the El-Wak Sports Stadium through the 37 Military Hospital area, Golden Tulip Hotel, Opeibea House, then through the Aviation Social Centre and converged at the Burma Camp Sports Complex for the games.
The walk was immediately followed by a 30-minute exciting, yet rigorous aerobics session led by some specialist Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces. Some of the games participated included a seven-a-side football for males and females, volleyball, tag of peace, swimming competition, among others.
Head of Corporate Affairs at NIB Mr. Charles Komla Wordey noted that “the rationale behind the event is promote physical exercise among staff toward improving their fitness and strength. Doing this regularly will eventually enhance their wellbeing. It is also aimed at fostering unity among our staff and to promote socialization.
Mr. Wordey emphasized that banking is “mostly sedentary as we sit down from 8 in the morning to 5pm and sometimes beyond so we thought of organizing this health walk to enable us release some stress. It is also aimed at helping us bond as a family.” He added that the Bank would continue to organize such games to ensure its staff improve their wellbeing. Other activities planned for the anniversary include public lecture, dinner and awards night and a thanksgiving service.
