The “Save A Child, Save A Mother” Initiative was launched by the First Lady, Mrs.Rebecca Akufo-Addo in Kumasi on the 28th of May, 2017. During the launch, an appeal was made for funds towards the completion of the Maternity block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
This initiative is a response to the severe congestion at the current Maternity Unit which has led to high mortality rate of mothers and infants at the unit. The Project, a 1,500 square metre one-storey building has the capacity to accommodate about five (5) times the current number when completed.
NIB in response to the appeal for funds made a One Hundred Thousand cedis (GH?100,000) contribution towards this worthy cause. The NIB delegation led by General Manager of Risk, Mr. Theophilus Dorgbetor stated that, the donation was in line with the Banks CSR of health promotion and delivery. The First Lady, commended NIB for the gesture saying it was her wish to see the project completed in time to save the lives of innocent children and mothers.
